How to Best Organize Your Inbox

Most of us get hundreds of emails per day.  It is very easy for messages to get lost in the shuffle.  How can you stay on top of so much information without being overwhelmed, missing important deadlines, or losing key details?  It is actually very simple.  It just requires a technique to organize the information so that what you need is where you can easily find it when you need it.   Clean Your Inbox First of all, you must commit to only keep items that require action in your inbox .  For those of you that have 15,000 old emails in your inbox, this can sound like the last thing on Earth you want to do.  Hear me out.    Start with taking all of those old emails and putting them into a folder called “Pre-2013” for example.  Move EVERYTHING into that folder.  There you go.  You’ve got a clean inbox.    Sort Incoming Emails for Efficiency Now, for all future incoming emails, re...

Giving Thanks in the Morning

One of the most powerful exercises I do in my day is to give thanks in the morning. At times giving thanks naturally arises for me. At others it doesn’t. It’s been those times that I’ve been far from feeling thankful that I’ve really come to understand its significant importance on another level. Now it’s a key part of my “daily do”. I have a regular morning routine that I play with to help me get off to a great start . Giving thanks has the greatest consistent effect over any other part of my morning “get ready” rituals. It’s simple. I just take a few moments out and check in to what I’m naturally feeling thankful about – and then magnify it. Sometimes I have to search deeply and may come up with things like “I am thankful for being in this nourishing space with my loving family." At others simple things will pop up quickly, like “I am thankful for having the space to take a bath this morning." I’ll tune into the firs...

The Winter Solstice (12/21) and the Essence of the Winter Season

The winter season officially begins with the solstice - which falls on Monday, December 21st 2009 at 3:38PM Pacific time this year.   The sun is up for the shortest time of the year on this day , making it our longest night of the year.  It marks a shift of seasons - from autumn to winter. The actual date changes each year, always falling between December 20 th and 23 rd in the Northern Hemisphere.  THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE WINTER SOLSTICE The winter solstice has been widely celebrated since ancient times.  Actually considered Midwinter in many older calendar systems, or the middle of winter rather than the beginning,  this is the day that the sun is the farthest away from us that it will be all year.  It marks a key turning point - when the days begin to get longer again.  Its the midpoint of darkness in the annual cycle .  On this day we begin our journey out of the midst of the shadow and on to the other side.  Many of the anci...

Presence and Dancing with Time

The downside of a schedule is that we often follow it to a “T” and allow it to lead us absolutely. We focus on what we “should” be doing - many times totally losing touch with the present moment and what’s happening right now. Emotions are stuffed until a better time (which usually never comes around until we are forced to face it). People are often pushed aside for tasks that seem to require attention. A more whole approach to time would be to dance with it. If you think about dancing and reflect on the analogy of it, it’s very easy to see. Let’s say you’re taking a dance class.  Consider the teacher to be your schedule. There is a learning curve in which you need to watch the teacher closely. However, you eventually want to stop looking to them during the dance; it’s best to tune in and feel the music and let it guide you. Dancing with confidence while smiling at the audience is key to a stellar performance. Staring at the teacher will leave you a beat behind, not...

A New Template of Time

I have a lot I want to do, yet I want to enjoy it all. I don't want too much rushing or working too hard that I’m exhausted. I’ve learned the hard way that I love balance and free time – and it is very good for me. When life has changes such as school starting or internal shifts in direction, I start over with fresh a clean slate and creatively develop a new intuitive strategy. One that allows me the lifestyle that’s important and has ultimate freedom within it. So this week is one of those times when it rises naturally again for me with school in session and client scheduling to figure out. I am ready to create a new template of time. I find life most refreshing when I am aware of my boundaries from a higher perspective with clarity in direction and then consciously explore and create my preferences in the details. It’s something I do incessantly out of curiosity. My little game with myself. Sometimes I get carried away figuring out what I like ...
